My point was what items for sale would make one open up their wallets/purses to help the local economy. I could see handmade Negril gift boxes filled with homemade spice blends and sauces; perhaps some Rum Cream bottles, all wrapped in a recycled last weeks Gleaner, Observer or Star. A little bottle of aloe. I can see folks telling others that you have to go to #13 in the craft market for her home made jerk blend; that sort of thing. I don't need a painting of a sunset that could have been drawn in Bora Bora or Florida but a painting of a jerk vendor would spell out Jamaica everytime you saw it. It seems that the average Jamaican thinks all we want is a cheap bracelet , poorly done carving or a cane that will never be used. Sure we do buy that Jamaican kitsch on our first visit but who needs another carving? I think that why Jurassic Park is so special in that besides the beautiful work, imagination also went into it.
