The Internet has Become Incredibly Dull

The Internet has become so very, very dull and boring and difficult. Just try posting a comment anywhere and you get "tested" by those visual verification systems that are so finely tuned that posting a comment has become nearly impossible. I spent a measly five minutes this morning trying to post a comment on a news blog this morning and after over 15 attempts to get it right, and failing, I just gave up.

These days people use the web to read the news or share their photos and videos or look at porn and that's just about it. Am I wrong? I am making a prediction that sometime early next year that there will be reports that Internet traffic has peaked and is in decline. Take for instance the topless photos of Russian President Putin. Everyone is gaga over a hairless middle aged man with his shirt off. Think about it... What is there about this pic that is so interesting?

U.S. Military Looks Beatable In Iraq Thanks To Bush & Cheney

I suspect that our enemies abroad are looking at the U.S. military in a different light considering we are unable to make any real progress in Iraq. The insurgents appear to have the upper hand now that press reports seem to indicate that they have taken control of the Iraqi power grid. It really is beginning to look like there will be a Viet Nam-like retreat and defeat for the U.S. but contrary to what Bush said about millions of lives lost, the Vietnamese did not embark on a killing spree after the U.S. defeat and today Viet Nam seems better off without the U.S. The killing fields were in Cambodia, a nation that the U.S. wasn't supposed to be fighting in, but again it was the C.I.A., not the U.S. military that lost the battle there as well and look what happened... So in retrospect I think we can blame our defeat in S.E. Asia on a poorly trained drafted military and and out-of-control C.I.A., we still haven't owned up to that fact.

Likewise we can see that the success of the 9/11 attack can be directly attributed to a failure of the F.B.I. and the C.I.A. and a White House distracted by a political agenda that had nothing to do with protecting our country from terrorists.

Now it is becomming clear that the primary reason that Karl Rove is leaving the White House is so that he can begin an attack on Clinton for the purpose of preventing her from being elected P.O.T.U.S. Bush and his cronies are beginning to see that if Hillary is elected they all stand a very good chance of being prosecuted after they leave office and power.

'Queen of Mean' Hotelier Helmsley Dies

She lived a life of high luxury but now the bitch is dead. I seriously doubt that she will be missed by anyone. Click on the pic to read more about her but I'll bet she's burning in hell right now.

Billionaire Helmsley's prison suit sells for $850

CHICAGO (Reuters) - The pink wool and denim skirt suit worn by the late real estate billionaire Leona Helmsley when she went prison in 1992 sold for $850 at auction on Sunday.

The Chanel suit was one of hundreds of items of clothing and accessories belonging to the late "Queen of Mean" sold at the auction, which raised $118,845, said Alice York, marketing coordinator for Leslie Hindman Auctioneers.

The top-selling item was a J. Mendel brown broad-tail coat that fetched $12,000, while a brown sable coat went for $6,000, York said.

The collection included a red beaded evening gown designed by Bob Mackie, which brought in $3,200 and a lot of 16 pairs of Ferragamo shoes that sold for $1,000.

Many of the items sold were made by Helmsley's full-time dressmaker who worked in a space that occupied the third floor of one wing of Helmsley's Greenwich, Connecticut estate.

The Helmsley holdings once included The Empire State Building and several lavish hotels, which were promoted by advertisements in which Leona Helmsley appeared with copy reading, "The only palace where the queen stands guard."

Helmsley was convicted of tax evasion in 1989 and jailed for 18 months. Testimony at her trial included her comment: "We don't pay taxes. Only the little people pay taxes."

She was profiled in articles, biographies and television movies with the moniker "The Queen of Mean."

She hit the headlines again after her death in August 2007 when she willed $12 million to her Maltese dog, Trouble. Fortune magazine said was one of the year's dumbest business moves.

Why 12 million illegal immigrants need to go home

Authorities arrested two more suspects today in the ruthless murders of three college students who were shot execution-style in a New Jersey schoolyard, bringing the total number of arrests in the case to five. And these five poorly socialized dogs need to be humanely euthanized and the 12 million other illegal immigrants need to go home and apply for U.S. citizenship just like everyone else does.

Cheney Will Say Anything

The YouTube video posted yesterday isn't the only video of Cheney enumerating the many reasons why an invasion of Iraq would be a mistake... It's pretty amazing to listen to him because he makes perfect sense, so what happened to change his mind? I suspect that the main reason he was against any invasion of Iraq was because Saddam Hussein was his good friend and then for some reason he and Saddam had a falling out, probably when Saddam invaded Kuwait, upsetting some of Cheney's other friends, the Kuwaitis. Just in case anyone has forgotten, Saddam Hussein actually consulted Bush 41's ambassador to Iraq about the consequences of Iraq invading Kuwait and Bush's Madame Ambassador told Saddam that an Iraqi invasion of Kuwait would be considered a "domestic affair" and the U.S. would not interfere. I guess we could call this a prime example of Bush 41's incompetence. This was during the same period that Saddam was committing genocide against his own people with poison gas and mass murder while Bush sat back happy with the profits from selling Iraqi oil in the U.S. But apparently no one in the Bush 41 administration thought to ask the Kuwaitis and their good buddies, the Saudis, how they felt about an Iraqi invasion. I guess now we know. I am really worried about Cheney. I suspect there may be a bit of megalomania in his behavior.

Rove In Love

After reading how Rove described his first meeting with Bush, back when he was in the Reserves (kind of), you have to wonder if maybe they were lovers or something...

Kiss me, my little Turd Blossom. Kiss me one last time here at the White House... No wonder Laura is glad to see him go. Now if she could only get rid of Condi.

Is it just me?

I have listened to President Bush during his last four or five press conferences and in every one of them he was barely coherent. He responds to the media’s questions by challenging the person, he doesn’t even try to answer the questions. Why does the media keep asking? Why don’t they just show up and sit there, silently?

(I can see theat there's a bug in the script. The apostrophies aren't translating properly!)

When are the imdividual members of the media going to start demonstrating their frustration?

Maybe they're not frustrated?

Bush seems genuinely uninformed at his press conferences. I suspect that he doesn't read the newspaper or watch cable news.

Faberge Eggs

Karl Faberge And His Easter Eggs.

Originally it was thought that Karl Faberge created exactly 50 unique Easter eggs for the Russian Imperial family.

Of those 50 original eggs, 42 are known to still exist today, but there is evidence that some of the known eggs might be forgeries and there is the tempting rumor that Faberge actually made two of every egg he created for the Romanovs.

Many of the eggs were quite complex with tiny easily broken moving parts. Faberge anticipated future repairs by secretly creating two identical eggs and keeping the spares in reserve. Empress Alexandra discovered the existence of the "spare eggs" in 1905 and personally requested that Faberge give them all to her immediately as she feared that they might fall into the hands of collectors and unsavory speculators. Faberge is said to have handed them over reluctantly but graciously.

The Empress rewarded him with a glimpse of her personal jewelry collection in it's entirety. As it turned out he may have been one of the few people outside the Imperial Family to see the entire collection and the manner in which Empress Alexandra stored it.

The jist of the whole story is that as none of the spare eggs has ever turned up at auction, we can suppose that they are all still in the place where the Empress kept them.

In addition, the bulk of the Empress' personal jewelery collection is still missing. It was an immense collection and only a fraction of it was ever recovered.

During the early days of the Communist regime Stalin ordered the royal palaces sealed. He demanded a complete accounting of the furnishings and jewels. Once completed, it was subsequently discovered that while the Romanov Imperial Crown Jewels were all accounted for, the Empress' personal jewelery collection was not only discovered to be vast, it was almost entirely missing. No one knew where it was and no one still alive had seen it in one place since Karl Faberge saw it in 1905. The KGB had several ruthless agents who did nothing but search for the empress' lost jewels, apparently unsuccessfully.

Today President Putin is said to be personally involved in the search for the Empress' lost jewels and it is widely believed that not only does the collection still exist, but that it is all still together in one safe and secret place, waiting to be rediscovered.

does this mean that the calendar will not update if I don't make a new entry?

Oh! I get it! The calendar is actually a index of the postings made that month. How ingenious! Unfortunately I still cannot delete postings... I have found at least four ways to delete entries, but none of them work. The Rebuild tool also does not seem to work with deleting entries.

Parking

I have a parking lot located next to the building. The folks who park in the lot pay for the space they park in. Today a big moving van pulled into the lot, parking diagonally across two spaces and at the same time blocking one of the entrances to the parking lot. The people in the truck were moving stuff into the building next door. I went out and told them that they had to move their van but of course they got rude and nasty because I told them that they had to move their van. They asked me where they could park? I had no answer and felt that the question was rude and unfair. When people move into or out of my building they cannot park in the lot unless they are parking in the space that they pay for. If they don't pay for a space, they don't park. What more can I say to them? If you pay for the space the space is yours. So they moved their van... Why do some folks feel that when they need to impose on strangers that it is OK if the strangers don't know they are being imposed upon.
